Aight. We've all seen the RushCard commercials. A lot of folks probably have them. It's a prepaid debit card developed by THEE hip-hop entrepreneur, Russell Simmons. It's supposed to be an easy alternative to banking and credit cards and boasts no overdraft or interest fees. Welp, now UniRush Financial Services (makers of the RushCard), along with four other similar companies, is under investigation for forcing users to pay hidden fees and subpoenas were issued by the Florida Attorney General's office. The other companies listed are First Data Corporation, Green Dot Corporation, Account Now, Inc. and Netspend Corporation. Read the Attorney General's statement below: ORLANDO, Fla.– Attorney General Pam Bondi’s office is investigating five prepaid debit card companies for possible deceptive and unfair practices. The Attorney General’s Economic Crimes Division issued a series of subpoenas regarding possible hidden fees on prepaid debit cards. Some subpoenas also ask for information about possible misrepresentations promising to improve consumers’ credit scores.

“Failing to disclose fees is essentially stealing money from consumers,” said Attorney General Bondi. “We will aggressively investigate these practices and ensure that Floridians are protected from hidden fees and charges.”

Prepaid debit cards work much like traditional, bank-issued debit cards, except they are not associated with a bank account. Instead, consumers purchase a prepaid debit card, often available at grocery or convenience stores, and load funds onto the card. Prepaid debit cards can be used like traditional debit cards to withdraw money from ATMs, buy groceries, pay monthly bills, or shop online.

The Attorney General’s Office has reviewed complaints alleging that the companies servicing prepaid debit cards often fail to disclose numerous fees. In some instances, every transaction a consumer makes using a prepaid debit card may be subject to a hidden fee.

The subpoenas were issued to the following companies: First Data Corporation; Green Dot Corporation; Account Now, Inc.; Netspend Corporation; and Unirush Financial Services, LLC.

The Attorney General’s Office encourages Floridians who believe they might have been victimized by unfair practices when purchasing and using a prepaid card to contact the Attorney General’s fraud hotline at 1-866-9-NO-SCAM (1-866-966-7226) or file a complaint online at http://www.myfloridalegal.com.

Dexter Isaac, a former associate of Jimmy "Henchman" and convict serving a life sentence for murder and robbery came forward today, the day before Pac's posthumous 40th birthday, and confessed to his involvement in the Quad Studio shooting in '94. He was prompted to do so because Henchman, who's on the run now for dope dealing, allegedly snitched on him. According to Isaac, Henchman paid him $2,500 to shoot 'Pac in '94. "I want to apologize to his family [Tupac Shakur] and for the mistake I did for that sucker [Jimmy Henchman]," Dexter Isaac told AllHipHop.com from prison. "I am trying to clean it up to give [Tupac and Biggie's] mothers some closure." Former Cash Money heavy hitter, BG (legal name Christopher Dorsey) was charged in a three-count indictment with being a felon in possession of a firearm and conspiracy to obstruct justice. This stems from when he was knocked in 2009 after guns were found in his car. He pleaded not guilty saying that he didn't know they were in the car. As far as the obstruction of justice charges, according to The Times Picayune in N'Awlins, “Dorsey, a convicted felon, allegedly conspired with two other men to get an associate, who was inside the vehicle, to claim ownership of the guns, according federal prosecutors...Dorsey allegedly pushed Demounde Pollard, 19, to sign a false affidavit that said Dorsey did not possess the guns. Both Pollard and Jerod Fedison, 29, have pleaded guilty in federal court on related charges.”

The new incarnation of Death Row Records does not have the rights to sell Dr. Dre's iconic rap album "The Chronic" digitally, a federal judge ruled Tuesday. The ruling by U.S. District Judge Christina Snyder ruling states that the rapper and producer has received far less money than he is due from online sales of the 1992 album, which also helped launch the career of Snoop Dogg. The ruling does not call for a halt of digital sales of Dre's music, but entitles him to receive 100 percent of the proceeds of online sales, his attorney, Howard King, told The Associated Press. The rapper, whose real name is Andre Young, sued WIDEawke Death Row Records last year, claiming it was improperly selling "The Chronic" digitally and using some of his music on compilation albums without his permission. Snyder's ruling states the label, which bought the original Death Row Records' holdings out of bankruptcy, does not have the right to put Dr. Dre's music on compilation or any other albums. "For years, Death Row Records forgot about Dre when they continued to distribute his music digitally and combined his hits with weaker Death Row tracks in an attempt to elevate the stature of their other artists," King wrote in a statement. "We are gratified that the federal court has unambiguously declared that Death Row has no right to engage in such tactics, and must hold all proceeds from these illicit distributions in trust for our client." Phone and email messages for WIDEawake's attorney, Michael Holtz, was not immediately returned Tuesday evening. The rapper has a long history of battling Death Row Records, a label he confounded but later left. The most recent case he filed centered on his 1996 exit agreement with the label, which called for him to receive 18 percent royalties on his music created while at Death Row and gave him substantial authority over how the songs were used. The agreement states that WIDEawake can only sell Dre's music in the format it appeared in before the deal. Another of Dre's attorneys, Stephen Rothschild, told Snyder during arguments in court on Monday that meant it could only appear in four formats: CD, cassette, vinyl and 8-Track. -via Billboard

The Federal Bureau of Investigations has released hundreds of pages of records from its investigation into the slaying of rapper Christopher Wallace, better known as Notorious B.I.G. The records spanning eight years stem from a civil rights probe the bureau launched into the killing. Records show FBI agents on both coasts participated in an 18-month investigation aimed at finding out who killed the Notorious B.I.G. and determine whether any Los Angeles police officers were involved. The inquiry ended in early 2005 after federal prosecutors concluded there wasn’t enough evidence to pursue a case against anyLos Angeles Police Department officers or another man implicated in the rapper’s 1997 shooting death. The New York rapper was gunned down in 1997 outside the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, as he was leaving a music industry party. No suspects have been named in the killing.
